Nostalgic Toys

By Roslyn Kent

When you're young, getting a new toy is like getting cold hard cash - but better. We all have a toy (or ten) that we remember vividly from our childhood. What's yours?

  • Mouse Trap

I can't believe this hasn't been added yet. I didn't know a single person who actually knew how to play the game, but the trap was fun enough on it's own

  • Balancing Bird

I don't even know if this has a legitimate name, but gosh were they cool.

  • Sky Dancers

Dolls that can fly! Serves a dual purpose as household weaponry. Dangerous!

  • Skip It

Sucked at it then, suck at it now. But for some reason, I still fight the battle.

  • Moon Shoes

My astronaut phase. We all had one.

  • Magnetic Drawing Board

My childhood career in one picture.

  • Kinder Surprise

Mystery Toy + Chocolate = I still buy these.

  • Supersoakers

    Pre-modern warfare.

  • Nokia Cell Phones

Before Angry Birds, there was snake.

  • Rubiks Cube

  • My Little Pony

Before bronies were a thing, My Little Ponies were just an adorable action figure.

  • Littlest Pet Shop

I'm talking the old school one. None of these creepy bulgy eyed pets.

  • Pogs

You bet that I had the entire Lion King set and a peace sign slammer!

  • GI JOE

We used to take these things apart and mix them up to create super badass new characters. I still have a pile of parts somewhere at my parents place. They'd rather i didnt.

  • Transformers!

More than meets the eye. I have a few of these bad boys new-in-box including Megatron. Boom!

  • Play-Doh

Allowing kids everywhere to exercise their creative minds. So squishy. Loved this stuff.

  • Tamagotchi

It was always so needy, but I never failed to cater to it. <3

  • Poochie Robot Dog

Because an e-dog is a child's best friend... My parents said I couldn't have a real dog until I proved to them I could take care of an electronic one. I broke it, so yeah. No real dog for me :(

  • Beanie Babies

The cutest and cuddliest collector's item of the late 1990s! These babies were supposed to fund my university tuition. I now have 100s of them in bins in my basement, gathering dust. Symbolic much?

  • Furby

This has to be one the weirdest toys that I owned as a kid, yet it's the toy that sticks out to me the most when I think of all the toys I obsessed over.

  • Operation

When I was young, I swore I was going to be a surgeon one day and I prepared myself by playing this game. I killed the patient almost every time so it's probably a good thing I changed my career path.

  • Easy Bake Oven

I give my Easy Bake Oven all the credit for my incredible baking skills today. When you weren't allowed to help out in the big kitchen, Easy Bake Oven was the next best thing.

  • Heelys

Words cannot described how stoked I was to put on these shoes for the first time. Wheels and shoes? Why didn't anyone think of this earlier! Too bad my school banned the use of them in the halls.

  • Razor Scooter

My scooter and I were attached at the hip for a number of years. Heck, my parents even let me bring it to the airport one time because it allowed us to keep up with them while we walked.

  • Crazy Daisy Sprinkler

It's a flower! It's a sprinkler! It's actually both, and this was my absolute favourite way to cool off when I was a kid. Trust me, for a harmless looking flower, it was pretty crazy.
